Ethical Hindsight and Professionalism among Practising Journalists in Akwa Ibom State

Abstract:
This study examined the influence of journalism ethics on the professional performances of Akwa Ibom State-based journalists. The objectives were to assess the level to which journalists in Akwa Ibom State are aware of professional ethics; examine the level of adherence to professional ethics among journalists in the State; identify the demographic characteristics of those who observe professional ethics in the course of their practice; and examine the challenges faced by journalists in applying such ethics. The population of the study was 601 duly registered journalists in the State. The study employed the survey research method and the instrument for data collection was the questionnaire. The respondents were selected purposively and the data were tabulated and analyzed using simple percentages. The major results were that Akwa Ibom State based journalists are very highly aware of their professional ethics guiding their practice; and are highly adhering to these ethics.
